On 2nd March 2021 the Danish College of General Practitioners (DSAM) informed Intact Denmark that they concur with the Danish Medical Associations policy on non-therapeutic circumcision and that DSAM does not hold views on the matter that differ from those of the Danish Medical Association.
In 2013 DSAM submitted a response to the national Danish Health Authority’s hearing on “Guidelines for Circumcision of boys”.
Following their submission DSAM published a comment in which they stated that “The Danish Health Authority har opened a hearing process on “Guidelines for Circumcision of Boys”. The board of DSAM has debated the presented draft and agrees that circumcisions may only be performed on medical indication.
Subsequently DSAM elected a new board and introduced new rules for terminology in the organisation. Following the introduction of said rules they removed the previously published press releases from their website.
On a board meeting held 9th March 2018 DSAM discussed the organisation’s current policy regarding non-therapeutic circumcision of boys and decided that henceforth the organisation would refer to the following quote “The Danish College of Practioners, DSAM, being a medical society, is of the opinion that circumcisions should solely be performed on medical indication. If a circumcision is performed without medical indication it is a mutilation.”

Meanwhile DSAM’s definition became a cultural meme. For a while it was accepted into the Danish Dictionary, which defined the term “mutilation” as “to seriously injure a person; to maim” and exemplified with an article from the major Danish daily newspaper Jyllands-Posten concerning DSAMs 2014 press release.
